Our Ink Ajrak pillows come from a long history of tradition and craftsmanship. Handwoven in India from a silk and wool blend, Ajrak is a type of block-printed textile that has a connection to the Sufi culture in the Sundh region of India. The cloth is resist dyed using natural dyes including indigo and madder, and is usually distinguished by its colours and complex geometric and floral patterns. The name ‘azarak’ comes from the word blue in Arabic and Persian, and blue can often be found in the designs. There are between fourteen and sixteen different stages of dyeing and printing, which take between two to three weeks to complete. The result is a soft, and detailed textile which has been crafted with extreme precision and consistency!
Each pillow has been exclusively assembled in our historic Guelph, ON warehouse, and includes a brass zipper enclosure and a cream cotton/linen backing.
