Green Chumil Basket

"Chumil," the Kaqchikel word for "star" is skillfully woven from long leaf pine needles, pajón, a native grass in Guatemala, and raffia. With its central star design rendered in shades of green, this basket is beautiful for display but also entirely functional.

Handmade from sustainably sourced material, these heirloom-quality baskets enhance the home with their natural beauty and texture and their subtle fragrance. Basket makers masterfully combine colour, form, and fine stitches to create baskets that, while perfect for display, are entirely functional as well. An ever-expanding community is collecting these baskets, each of which bears a tag signed by the basket artist who crafted it.
