There’s something timeless about African Mudcloth. Also known as Bògòlanfini (earth with cloth), these traditional textiles are handmade in Ghana from several small 5” strips of fabric that are woven on a loom, sewn, and hand-painted using fermented mud and plant dyes. Traditional Mudcloth is steeped in rich history, with the symbols depicted often being secretive or known to only a select community. Initially a women-made textile, the skills and messages in the fabric were passed from mother to daughter.
